When you think of trainers based in Scotland, the first name that will come to mind is Jim Goldie, long established as the country’s premier trainer.
Year on year Jim consistently hits the mark and is as comfortable targeting the big prizes at Glorious Goodwood (The Stewards’ Cup) as he is landing races over the Grand National fences at Aintree (The Grand Sefton).
Jim was born into racing, his father Thomas Goldie was a permit holder based in Kilwinning. Before long Jim was riding for his father and boasts of a unique 100% record at Sedgefield ( 2 rides – 2 wins).
The horse which helped shaped Jim’s future career as a trainer was Colonel Rose, the first horse which Jim bred and who “won races just when i needed him to”.
Jim eventually took out his own trainer’s licence in 1994 and set up at Libohill Farm Stables and it was not long before he landed his first winners: Dawadar over jumps and Keep Battling on the flat.
Since 1994, Jim has won almost £6,000,000 in prize money and had well over 600 winners and every year demonstrates that you can have the success without spending telephone number amounts of money.
Jim has trained many good horses, among them; Orientor, Indian Spark, River Falcon, Johayro, Lampion De Bois, Endless Power and currently has Nanton, Hawkeyethenoo and Jack Dexter in his ranks.
And he has landed some great prizes too:
Jim’s philosophy for training horses is straight forward enough: Look after them when they are young, nurture them in the early years and keep them healthy and happy.
Jim has many ambitions remaining in racing and prominent in them is to win The Ayr Gold Cup and The Grand National at Aintree. Interestingly enough, Jim firmly believes that he currently has two horses in the yard who can land those prizes for him! You read it here first…
Jim’s operation at Libohill Farm continues to grow and he currently has over 60 horses in the yard. The yard is very much a family affair and Jim is assisted by his wife, Davina and sons, Jim Jnr and George as well as his daughters-in-law Isla and Lynsey and a strong supporting, loyal staff.
Johnnie Delta Racing is delighted in having Jim Goldie train the entire JDR string – our horses could not be in better hands.
